Earth Day is the best day of the year to try new ways of being environmentally-friendly. Here are a few ways to include pets into the mix.

Happy Earth Day, everyone!

We at The Meow Place believe in being as eco-friendly as we can. Everyone here does their part to recycle, reuse, and refurbish in order to both save money and lessen our carbon footprint. That includes pet supplies.

#1 – Switch To Earth-Friendly Products

Switching to earth-friendly products for Earth Day can not only lessen your impact on the earth, but it can also save you money! This includes pet products! Keep reading to find out more about switching to eco-friendly pet products and where you can find them. #EarthDay #ecofriendlypetproducts #biodegradablelitter

There are plenty of eco-friendly pet products available on the market these days. These are our favorites!

Use Biodegradable Litter

Clay litters aren’t exactly earth-friendly, so for Earth Day, we encourage you to use a biodegradable litter like Pretty Litter or Okocat. While you should still not flush litter down the toilet, these litters are the first step to a more natural, eco-friendly household.

Invest In Quality Food Dishes

Rather than constantly buy new plastic dishes that hold odors and gross bacteria, try something sturdier. We use the Dr. Catsby Whisker Relief food dish. We’ve had them for over two years. Aside from a few minor scratches, they’re still holding strong! They’re also made out of stainless steel that helps prevent bacteria build-up, and they don’t smell like plastic dishes do.

Try Natural Grooming Products

You can get natural shampoos, brushes, and wipes from most retail outlets. We recently reviewed Burt’s Bees Waterless Shampoo for Cats. Spoiler alert: we loved it!!! It’s nearly 100% natural. Here are just a few other grooming products that are natural:

#2 – Recycle And Renew

There are lots of items around your house that can be turned into something new for your kitty. Take this Earth Day Opportunity and give one of these projects a try!

DIY Sock Cat Toy

Sock cat toys are super easy to make. All you need is catnip, poly-fill, and an old sock! Check out the full tutorial from Honestly and Truly.

Recycled Pillow Pet Bed

These DIY pet beds aren’t super fancy, but they’re much cheaper than buying one at the store. You can also make these beds for shelter pets who may not have the luxury of a cozy home and bed of their own.

Cardboard Cat House

There are SO MANY do-it-yourself cat house tutorials on Pinterest that it’s nearly impossible to pick just one. However, we tried this fancy cat house tutorial out ourselves. It was easy-peesy!

#3 – Plant A Cat-Friendly Garden

Celebrate Earth Day with your cat by planting a cat-friendly garden, either indoors or outdoors. There are quite a few herbs and flowers that are safe for cats! Keep reading to find out what they are. #catfriendlygarden #catsafeplants

Spring is here! Finally… up here in Minnesota, we were starting to worry. Who gets a blizzard in mid-April? (Uh, we do.)

We can’t wait to get started on planting season, so we’re sharing the love with these awesome cat-friendly gardens!

Cat-Proof Indoor Garden

We did an entire post about how to create a cat-proof indoor garden. Hurry up and go check it out!

Make A Cat Herb Garden

Catnip isn’t the only plant that cats go crazy for. Cats also love catmint, cat grass, and assorted herbs that prove to be a safe, tasty treat.

Plant Flowers That Are Safe For Cats

I’m going to tell you right away that lilies are dangerous to cats. In fact, they’re deadly. Avoid having these in your garden at all costs, especially if your cat goes outdoors!

There are several cat-friendly flowers that will look splendid as landscaping material or garden decorations. Check out the ASPCA’s list of non-toxic plants for cats for some ideas.
